Cable-Supported Tensile Shade Structure
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Project Overview
A Cable-Supported Tensile Structure Integrated with the Building
Al-Bereik Shades delivered the complete design, engineering, fabrication, supply, and installation of a 504 m² cable-supported tensile shade structure at Radisson Blu Hotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The structure incorporates a MEHLER PVC/PVDF 1050 GSM membrane, forming a lightweight architectural canopy integrated with the hotel building. The structure combines approximately 85 tons of epoxy-coated structural steel with PVDF-coated fabric 1400 GSM by FPC.
A defining feature of the project is its cable-supported configuration, with the tensile membrane structurally connected and tensioned through cables anchored to the surrounding building. This approach creates a visually light structure while allowing the membrane form to interact directly with the existing architecture.

Engineering Highlight
Cable-Supported Integration with the Existing Building
The tensile membrane is supported through a system of tension cables connected to the surrounding building, reducing the need for conventional supporting elements. The cable arrangement works together with the central high point to establish the membrane geometry and maintain the required tensile form.
